IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SENIORS
(Please share with your parents/guardians.)
The following are some things that seniors need to keep in mind as the school year draws to a close. Remember that your counselor and the Counseling Department office staff are here to help answer any questions you might have.
Awards Assembly – The Awards Assembly for students/parents will be held on Monday evening, May 21st from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Students who will be receiving an award will receive an invitation to this event.
Seniors’ Last Day – The last day of class for seniors is Wednesday, May 23rd. All classroom responsibilities must be completed by the end of the day, and your locker must be cleaned out. Students may pick up their caps and gowns on Wednesday, May 23rd over the lunch hour. Students will be responsible for their caps and gowns from the time they are issued until after graduation. BE CAREFUL NOT TO LOSE THE TASSEL FROM YOUR CAP. IT COMES OFF VERY EASILY.
Graduates may retain your cap, tassel and gown. Sashes and honor cords will be collected as part of the recessional at graduation. REFER QUESTIONS ON CAPS AND GOWNS TO THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE.
Edgenuity – Any Senior who is enrolled in an online credit recovery course (Edgenuity) must have all coursework completed on or before Friday, May 18th. If you are enrolled in an Edgenuity course and have any questions about your progress, please see Ms. Link in the Counseling Office.
Gold Sashes – Gold sashes will be handed out at graduation rehearsal to those students who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0-3.99.
White Sashes – White sashes will be handed out at graduation rehearsal to those students who have a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 or higher.
NHS Cords – NHS cords will be handed out at graduation rehearsal to those students who are NHS members.
Mustang Service Award Medals – Mustang Service Award medals will be handed out at graduation rehearsal to those students who have documented 75 or more hours of service.
Graduation Rehearsal – Rehearsal will be held at Five Flags on Friday, June 1st at 1:00 p.m. Attendance is mandatory. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT EVERY SENIOR BE PRESENT AND ON TIME. ALL SENIORS WHO EXPECT TO TAKE PART IN THE COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES MUST BE PRESENT FOR THE 1:00 REHEARSAL UNLESS SPECIFICALLY AND INDIVIDUALLY EXCUSED IN ADVANCE BY MR. KOLKER. Allow a few extra minutes to park and find where you need to go. Plan to bring coins for the parking. If you are NOT planning to participate in the ceremony, call or stop by the Main Office.
Immunization Records – At graduation practice, you will receive the school district’s only copy of your immunization record. Make sure that you take this document home, show it to your parent/guardian, and file it in a safe and retrievable place.
Graduation – The graduation ceremony will be held at Five Flags on Saturday, June 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Doors will open at 9:00 a.m. Seniors are to report no later than 9:30 a.m. Tell your friends and parents to come early enough to avoid traffic and parking problems. They will need additional time because Five Flags security will search all bags, purses and personal items of any size. Their list of prohibited items is available on their website and from the Hempstead Counseling Office. Five Flags doesn’t allow bags larger than 14” x 14” x 6” or backpacks. An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection. Five Flags will not store over-sized or prohibited items. Check http://www.fiveflagscenter.com/p/info/308 for more information regarding prohibited items.
Parking – Parking is available in the nearby municipal ramps and surface lots. A fee is charged, usually payable as you enter to facilitate a speedier departure. ALL PRIVATE LOTS IN THE AREA ARE RESTRICTED. Cars parked in these lots will be ticketed and towed.
Seating – Families with special seating needs (wheelchair, walker, interpreter, etc…) should call the Main Office by Thursday, May 24th.
Photography – Photographers will be restricted to an area well away from the front of the stage. We strongly suggest that you consider the photo service provided by the professionals and avoid attempting to approach the stage. The photographer will take a picture of students as they receive their diploma. Approximately 2-4 weeks after graduation, your parent/guardian will get an email from the photographer as proofs are mailed directly to your home. You may then order the number of pictures you wish. Keep in mind that you are under no obligation whatsoever to use this service. All correspondence regarding the purchase of photographs will be directly between you and the photographers.
Selective Service – All male students are reminded that you must register with the Selective Service when you turn 18. Failure to do so may impact your eligibility for financial aid. Registering for selective service is the law. Go to www.sss.gov.
