IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SENIORS
(Please share with your parents/guardians.)
The following are some things that seniors need to keep in mind as the school year draws to a close. Remember that your counselor and the Counseling Department office staff are here to help answer any questions you might have.
Graduation Date: Saturday, May 29th, 2021 at 3pm. Check back later for more information as we receive it.
Graduation Rehearsal –
Mandatory graduation rehearsal is Friday, May 28th, 2021 at 10a.m. at Dalzell Field. UPDATE: Hempstead High School graduation practice is cancelled for Friday due to weather. Seniors participating in the graduation ceremony should go to the Hempstead Event Entrance between 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 28 to pick-up their graduation packet. The packet contains each student’s unofficial transcript, immunization record, directions for graduation, and any sashes, cords, and service medals graduates have earned. Seniors that have not picked up their cap and gown yet, may also pick those up during this time.
If you do not plan on participating in the graduation ceremony, please let your counselor know. Attendance is taken at rehearsal and will be used as our final roster for the day of graduation. Allow a few extra minutes to park and find where you need to go. If you are NOT planning to participate in the ceremony, call or stop by the Main Office. If all seniors are in their seats by 10a.m., we should be done within an hour. Please allow yourself time to get a parking spot and walk to your seat.
Clarke College has graciously offered our students the opportunity to park in their lot for rehearsal. Seniors can also park on the street where available spots are open. Upon arriving, please go directly to Dalzell Field and find your name on your seat and be seated.
Awards Assembly – The Awards Assembly for students/parents will be held TBA. Students who will be receiving an award will receive an invitation to this event.
Seniors’ Last Day – Seniors’ last day is Friday, May 21st, 2021. All course work and finals must be completed for Seniors no later than May 21st. All Seniors are expected to be in classes through May 21st. Seniors will pick up their caps and gowns and turn in their laptop and charger by the end of the day. Seniors can keep their laptop bag, just the actual laptop and charger will need to be turned in. Seniors should take care of all their obligations by the end of the day. Cap/Gown pick up and lap top return will be throughout 5th hour in the main office hallway. If you did not turn in your laptop during 5th hour, please return your laptop to the student run helpdesk in the library by 2:30p.m. Students will be responsible for their caps and gowns from the time they are issued until after graduation. BE CAREFUL NOT TO LOSE THE TASSEL FROM YOUR CAP. IT COMES OFF VERY EASILY.
Graduates may retain your cap, tassel and gown. Sashes and honor cords will be collected as part of the recessional at graduation. REFER QUESTIONS ON CAPS AND GOWNS TO THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE.
Edgenuity – Any Senior who is enrolled in an online credit recovery course (Edgenuity) must have all coursework completed on or before Friday, May 24th. If you are enrolled in an Edgenuity course and have any questions about your progress, please see Ms. Link in the Counseling Office.
Gold Sashes – Gold sashes will be handed out at graduation rehearsal to those students who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0-3.99.
White Sashes – White sashes will be handed out at graduation rehearsal to those students who have a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 or higher.
NHS Cords – NHS cords will be handed out at graduation rehearsal to those students who are NHS members.
Mustang Service Award Medals – Mustang Service Award medals will be handed out at graduation rehearsal to those students who have documented 75 or more hours of service.
Immunization Records – At graduation practice, you will receive the school district’s only copy of your immunization record. Make sure that you take this document home, show it to your parent/guardian, and file it in a safe and retrievable place.
Seating – Families with special seating needs (wheelchair, walker, interpreter, etc…) should call the Main Office by Thursday, TBA
Photography – Photographers will be restricted to an area well away from the front of the stage. We strongly suggest that you consider the photo service provided by the professionals and avoid attempting to approach the stage. The photographer will take a picture of students as they receive their diploma. Approximately 2-4 weeks after graduation, your parent/guardian will get an email from the photographer as proofs are mailed directly to your home. You may then order the number of pictures you wish. Keep in mind that you are under no obligation whatsoever to use this service. All correspondence regarding the purchase of photographs will be directly between you and the photographers.
Selective Service – All male students are reminded that you must register with the Selective Service when you turn 18. Failure to do so may impact your eligibility for financial aid. Registering for selective service is the law. Go to www.sss.gov.
ENJOY YOUR LAST WEEKS OF HIGH SCHOOL AND BEST WISHES FOR YOUR FUTURE!
Senior Portraits – The yearbook staff has decided that we will only accept digital copies of senior pictures from now on. Digital files are higher quality than scanned photos and will reproduce in the book better. Students will need to send JPEG files to email@example.com for submission.
Yearbook Senior Portrait Deadline: To submit your portrait, send a jpeg file of your picture to Ms. Blosch at firstname.lastname@example.org
CPR Training – CPR training is required by Iowa law for all Iowa high school graduates and is offered through Hempstead wellness classes. Seniors who DO NOT HAVE PE in their schedule THIS YEAR (this includes seniors with athletic or academic exemptions or contract Wellness) are required to attend CPR training on TBA. Watch future announcements for more details for seniors.
Early Grads – Please let the main office know if you plan to attend graduation or not at 552-5200.
