Gay Straight Alliance

Hempstead High School’s Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club that meets weekly on Wednesday mornings in B122. Our club works to provide a safe place for all students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression. Our focus is to end homophobia and trans-phobia.
In addition to individual support, our GSA works on educating the school community about sexual orientation and gender/identity issues. We bring in outside speakers and we have organized “LGBTQ Awareness Events” during Spring Wind and throughout the school year. We have been working with staff development, focusing on teaching school staff how to be supportive of LGBTQ students.
